My Birthday

On Thursday I had a really nice birthday with Kim and Micah. We thought about going to the State Fair, but Micah doesn't sit in his stroller very well, so it didn't sound like a fun time this year. We went to Como Park and went throught the butterfly garden. My friend Shannon and I had brought Micah to the zoo awhile ago and he really liked the butterflies.

Then we went to the park and had a picnic of Chipotle, my favorite picnic food.

Then we went to Izzy's Ice Cream Shop. We had seen it on a TV show "On the Road with Jason Davis" and I have wanted to go ever since. It was so good. I recommend "Coffee Break" and "Salty Caramel" yum.

Micah's 1st Birthday

Sunday the 23rd Micah turned one. He wore his Korean Hanbok to church. The Hanbok was a gift from his foster mom. It is the traditional clothes that children in Korea wear on their first birthday. It is several layers of heavy fancy satin with ebroidered decorations on it. It was pretty hot and not very breathable so we didn't make him wear all the layers very long and the hat stayed on for about 2 seconds. I don't think I got any pictures with the whole thing on.

The cake. I could write a whole blog about The Rubber Ducky Cake. It was really was cute before we left home. Here's a picture of it in the freezer. Unfortunaely it was a warm day in the park, and the faces on the cupcakes slid right off the cupcakes and the duck head slid off the cake. It was kind of funny. We scraped the eyes off the tablecloth and put them back on the head but they were on crooked. It looked pretty sad after that.

Micah's pants were MC Hammer style and 10 sizes too big. Poor kid.

Church Camping

We went camping this weekend with some families from our church. Micah did really well sleeping in the tent, it was Chloe that was our problem child. She does not do well with kids especially when they run around, so this weekend was pretty much her worst nightmare. Apparently there was a herd of deer (we heard anywhere from 10-25) that walked right by our tent during the night. We slept right through it. I forgot to take some pictures of our tent and campsite, but here's what we did take...

1st Haircut

Kim has wanted to get Micah a haircut since we got home from Korea, but I have procrastinated because I was afraid he wouldn't look like a baby anymore. Anyway, today was the day. I thought I could probably do it, but I chickened out and brought him to Kids Kuts. $12 and super kid friendly people and atmosphere; totally worth it. He was super squirmy until they put the apron on him and then he was paralyzed. It was great. He sat so still I was even able to get out the camera and take some pictures. They saved some of his hair for me in a baggie and gave him a "1st Haircut Certificate".

Lake George

Micah and I met some of my coworkers with their kids at the lake today. He loved it. He especially loved playing with a doll that one of the little girls brought. Apparently we need to get him a doll.

Trip to Aitkin

Last weekend we went to visit our friends Henry and Jessica who recently moved to Aitkin from Coon Rapids. We had a great time playing with kids and having a bonfire and staying up late playing Pinochle. The guys went fishing on Saturday and we had a nice fish fry Saturday night.
We won the battle to sleep on the air mattress. Jessica was kind enough to take this photo of all the Kringens in bed Saturday morning. Here's the sad part. Our dog Chloe is in the picture but she didn't sleep on the floor with Kim and I. She spent most of the night in bed with Henry and Jessica, snoring. Pathetic.

We went to a park by Crosby. This was the first time we put Micah on the swings. He liked it, but loved the woodchips even more. After we left the park I noticed he had gopher cheeks. We found 3 big woodchips in his mouth. After a couple CPR-like fingersweeps, he was good as new.
